Eagles / Re: Meaning of Dual 2 Tax on letter ?
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:05:13 PM »
JC,

Both '2' markings appear to be the same. This is a wonderful example of a 'through the lines' cover from SLP to Saltillo during mid 1864. The recipient would be charged 2 reales on delivery in Saltillo as the prepaid 2 reales [Eagle stamp] would only cover the postage to the transfer point.

Looks more like Salvatierra (unlisted cancel; previously discussed) to me.
Does not have 'negative' Acambaro cancel.

Probably good. Some (including Escandon and other Regency supporters) used Maximilian stamps as late as July 1867. Follansbee sold a Soyaniquilpan cover dated late July, 1867. The Post Office reopened June 22, 1867 so a May 1867 Maxi use is quite easily explained.

'OUND' could be part of the word  'FOUND' such as in a 'NOT FOUND' auxiliary marking seen in some US and/or British offices.

The 1930 and 1931 overprints were the final straw in Mexican stamp overprint manipulation. They were prepared for a dealer who tightly controlled distribution. In fact, he had almost all of the 4c and $1 '1931' overprint in his stock, and only overprinted the 2c value [1931] several years later (listing removed from most catalogs). According to one source only about 150 sets of the '1931' Habilitado overprints were even distributed to postal outlets. Remaining stocks were finally destroyed after collectors outcry.
Query: Does anyone have knowledge of the number of stamps per pane for both the centavos and peso values?Possibilities for the 1 peso value are 25, 30, or 50 stamps per pane (which were all known as issued for different stamps during this period). Centavos values could be either 50 or 100 stamps/pane.Any help would be appreciated!

Rodolfo,
I think that this stamp is invoice 46, sub 31; also San Martin Texmelucan.

Hotel Noria already sold out for part of meeting. Hotel 'Marques del Valle' located immediately on Zocalo (next to Cathedral) , 2 blocks from meeting site still has some rooms at reasonable rates.

Hi all,
Appears to be more related to over/wet inking then a true 'consistent' variety. Will check my holdings to see if either theory is supported.

February 8, 1872 date seems too early. EKU for anotado covers is March 5 with LKU mid April 1872.
