 :)  Dear collectors and clients,

It gives me the very greatest pleasure to announce that I have received a major collection of Maximilians to disperse and at some 15 items a week I anticipate it will run for the next 30 weeks!!!!

Something for everyone, from the expensive to the common, this is your only chance to fill those gaps so dont miss out!

As  district Mexico is the largest by far, there will be 6 or 7 Mexico items each week followed by other districts and a few subs and as long as they last, 1 cover!!

So gird up your loins and look forward to some great material in great condition and with overwhelmingly 4 margins!!

To view all my items this week, as always, here is the direct link before I describe my auction contents in more detail and tell you about the highlights. http://www.ebay.com/sch/spuffnstuff/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=

Commencing with 10 pre-stamp covers including a Maritime to London on board the RMSP"Dee" (lot a057).

Starting the stamps with the 1856 issue containing 9 singles the highlight of which is a splendid dark emerald 2R from Cordova (lot g025).

Then you should find 5 stampless items from the 1856-1861 issue period of which 1 is an incoming Maritime from NY addressed to Tabasco.(lot f082).

5 singles from the 1861 issue follow including a nice "AGUASCALIENTES" long name 2 R stamp (lot g030).

For the Eagles this week ther are 6 singles and 3 pieces of postal history from the Imperial period.

As mentioned at the start of this announcemnt the next 15 items are the commencement of the David Pietsch Maximilian collection highlighted by a nice 7c, a cover from the Julian Ybargüengoytia archive and 3 sub-office usages. TAKE A LOOK!!

Now come the 1868 thin figures with 6 items from the John Bash collection followed by 15 items with the thick figures mostly with sub-office usage.

From the same period an unusual printed circular from the St Vincent de Paul Society and an internal Maritime letter from Puebla to Merida.

10 singles and 2 covers from the 1872 issue including a French "anchor" cancel. and lastly a printed circular from 1888.

No 1874s this week but rest assured there will be some next week.

You now have less than  24 hours to place your snipe bids so do it now before you get distracted by other less important events in your life.

Sorry to ramble on a bit but I am very excited by the Maxis!!!!!!!
See you all to-morrow morning and until next week cheers from Spuff.

cheers

General Discussion / collectors of Tampico
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:50:25 PM »
I recently received an intersting cover (f113 going up on ebay on 18th Sept) originating at the Royal Prussian Consulate in Tamaulipas.

"Needs some research" I said to myself!!

I contacted first the German Embassy in NZ and they said try the German Embassy in Mexico City and they said try the Foreign Office in Berlin and they said Try the Secret Archive of the State of Prussia. ;D BINGO!!!!!!!

I did and to my amazement I received an answer this morning. In German of course the gist of which said thet the Consulate in Tamaulipas was open on and off from 1832 to 1871 when Prussia became part of the Deutsches Reich.

I just thought youy would like to know that records of defunct countries still exist and can be accessed.
here is the very full and interesting reply from the Archive in full.

"VERY PC!!!!!!!!!!"

:)  Anyone care to tell me what the word "Slata" or "Stata" is an abbreviation for. ???

I assume "prio" is "prioridad" and "De oficio" is self-explanatatory.

1868 Issue / LEON diligencias cancel Sz504?
« on: August 16, 2011, 03:49:08 PM »
:)  I found this in the Guanajuato section of Volume 2 of the John Bash 1868 collection.
Can some expert  please confirm if you think this is the "LEON" cancel.?

It does not seem to match the illustration in Rubio book or Schatzkes.

Or what do you think it might be?

There is the "tilda" above Admon I think.

1868 Issue / OTATITLAN AND MINATITLAN CANCELS 1790 AND 1791c
« on: July 26, 2011, 03:47:37 PM »
i WOULD LIKE TO SEE COMPLETE SCANS OF BOTH THESE CANCELS.

:) I HAVE A NOTE IN MY SZ THAT THE MINATITLAN ILLUSTRATION IS SMALLER THAN THE ACTUAL.
DOES IT REALLY HAVE SQUARE ENDS? ???

SZ DOES NOT LIST OTATITLAN USED ON 1868 AND 1872S BUT THE ATTACHED CANCELS LOOK AS THOUGH THEY SHOULD BOTH BE OTATITLAN FROM THEIR SIZE AND NOT MINATITLAN.
WE NEED TO CLEAR THIS UP.
PLEASE POST YOUR SCANS.FRITZ,COLIN AND ANY OTHER COLLECTOR OF BOTH THESE ISSUES,
NO GUESSES PLEASE JUST PROOF ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.
THANKS

« on: July 22, 2011, 06:24:31 PM »
Can anyone tell me what this Oaxaca department is? :)
I cannot find "ALCABALAS" in any of my Spanish dictionaries.
Sounds like an Arabic derivation to me.

Help, Aidez-moi!!
Maybe someone can help me here with this strange cover.

It is dated Veracruz 24th Sept 1830 and is addressed to a firm of architects in Jalapa.

So far so good.

BUT it is anotated "Extraordinario" . This service as we all know was set up under the auspìces  of the British Legation in VC to expedite the mail from VC to Mexico City and back so return mail could catch the next outgoing packets.

The letter in French even says this will be going by Express to Mexico City..

All well and good you might say except the letter is addressed to Jalapa which is of course in the opposite direction to the south and was not served by the Express service.

Any explanations will be most welcome!!!!!
