Maximilians / Is this a thru the lines manuscript mark ?
« Last post by Jean-Claude on February 18, 2020, 08:20:34 AM »
I see a manuscript mark 25 on a letter with a Maximilian stamp. Th letter is dated December 31 and is sent from Mexico-City to San Luis Potosi. The key to clarify this is : was San Luis Potosi still under the control of the Maximilian trops, or not.

Eagles / Re: Meaning of Dual 2 Tax on letter ?
« Last post by Jean-Claude on February 03, 2020, 04:57:46 AM »
Thank you Mark, I understand the "thru the lines" rule as I have several other examples in both Hidalgo and Maximilian but why applied twice and the two 2 appear different in shape ? Also does it mean taxed at 4; I supposed not as they had the 4 hand-stamp and the origin stamp was only 2. Any idea ?

JC,

Both '2' markings appear to be the same. This is a wonderful example of a 'through the lines' cover from SLP to Saltillo during mid 1864. The recipient would be charged 2 reales on delivery in Saltillo as the prepaid 2 reales [Eagle stamp] would only cover the postage to the transfer point.

Dear collectors of Classic Mexico clients and friends.
We are having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave (sounds like a familiar song) here in NZ. Most people do not have a/c as we are usually temperate temperature-wise.
The nights are long and hot at the moment.
Take a good look at my BIN, especially the 647 Imperial eagles!!!

Just 22 auction lots for you in my auction this week as follows:-

All my auction lots are Imperial eagles this week from district Mexico including 5 ochos and 6 cuatros.

Eagles / Meaning of Dual 2 Tax on letter ?
« Last post by Jean-Claude on January 29, 2020, 07:48:52 AM »
can anyone explain this dual 2 tax thru the lines ? Is this a tax of 4R ? The 2's are different in shape !

Dear collectors of Classic Mexico clients and friends.
You may be freezing in the Northern Hemisphere but here in NZ we are expecting a few days of 35 + degrees Celsius and very few people have a/c.
Fortunately we have a heat pump which can bring the temperature down to 18 degrees Celsius in our living room.

Just 18  auction lots for you in my auction this week as follows:-
16 Imperial Eagles
Including an ocho from District Mexico 219-1864 (lot me1404) and another ocho also from district Mexico 237-1864 (lotme1411).

An 1878 printed circular franked 4c (lotb719)

An 1878-1883 25c Ybarguengoytia archive cover (lot b718).
