A postal forgery is created to fool the post office to be used on mail. This stamp was created to fool collectors therefor not postal forgery. Marc

The stamp is genuine, but with the marking added can be considerer a postal forgery ?

An added cancel on  remainder stamp can be either genuine or false. Both types are known.During this time period the vast majority of Maximilian stamps had a district name overprint applied prior to use. Some examples of genuinely used 'without overprint' Maximilian issue stamps are known, and their evaluation depends on review of invoice number, cancel, and other known examples including covers where available.Invoice 52 'Merida' is especially known for large quantities of unoverprinted remainder stamps which have been fraudulently canceled.

Thanks for your eplies friends!.   Well, I am understanding that added cancel on remainder stamp is a genuine cancel as CTO type?, or fake.  Sincerely I feel that the cancel is genuine.   The Merida use with overprint is a guarantee?, If so, then it is false.

Rodolfo,
It is a fake cancel since all the genuine used Maximilians from Merida that I have seen all have overprints.
Best regards,
Manuel.

Hello friends!

I have this stamp with a circular cancellation, but I have a doubt, it looks as Sz# 188 (Tay ME-1/8) and in the Catalogues is marked as use only in 1856;  ( probably " Out of District "? ) any idea???, thanks!

Regards!
Rodolfo
