Many thanks Marc,
The efficiency of the mail service is frightening. We could certainly learn by it.

In England in the 1940s when I was a boy in Bath we had 3 deliveries of mail each day.
If you received a letter at 0900 you could wrte a reply post it and the addressee would get it (in Bath) in the 4pm mail delivery. We did not have the system wher you gave the mail to the postman.

Spuff,
The Solent departed VC on Dec. 5, 1855 stopping at Havana on Dec. 9 and arriving St. Thomas on Dec. 17.  At St. Thomas your letter was carried by the TYNE departing on Dec. 18 arriving Southhamton Jan. 4th.

Try John Kordich on this question. He is not connected to Meximail, so you will have to email him.

I do not have the relevant literature so could someone be so kind as to identify the British mail packet (RMSP) sailing out of Veracruz for England on 5th dec 1855. Or maybe a couple of days later; cant be much as it arrived in London on 4th Jan. ??? .
Thanks spuff.
