.AVARR is Havarr and it is a bogus cancel also seen on postal stationery in the 1880s. It has been reported by Schimmer in MEXICANA years ago

Stampless Mail from 1821 / Morelos
« on: February 17, 2018, 10:38:34 AM »
As some of you may have noticed, I was selling some stampless FLS in the past. The only lettersheet I can't find in the litterature (Yag Bash/Schatzkes/ Schimmer / Taylor / Guia Postal / Ritter statistilal Lexicon) is a SL MORELOS on a 1843 FLS. Does anybody know in which state or district is Morelos? The sheet was written from Cuahuistla a place I can't find either..
Thank you for your help

Postal Stationary / Re: Special Delivery Postal Stationary Envelopes
« on: December 27, 2016, 09:39:06 AM »
These Entrega covers are extremely rare used ! I priced them in the catalog to come soon at $450.-for SD1 and $500.- for SD2 used and believe that this is ok. Once the 3 or 4 really serious collectors have their used item, the price normally goes down. Of course, I bid on that item too, but did not go higher than what I think it's worth.  I add a picture of a MUESTRA perfined envelope with manuscript  "Confirmed" (I am not sure) / initials /date. It seems that this (second) envelope was issued in 1930.
Have a good time and a prospeous New Year. Peter

This seems to be a rather late use of a SBS on a cover. Does anybody know until when they were  used?

Post-classic Stamps 1900 - 1940 / Re: Postal Rates in Early 20th Century
« on: December 03, 2016, 08:07:20 AM »
At the turn of the 19th to the 20th century the local rate for postal cards was 1 Centavo, the domestic rate for PC was 2 Centavos. The same rate applied for cards to USA and Canada. The international postacard rate was 3 Centavos until 1902 (I don't know the exact date of the new rate).1902 it was increased to 4 Centavos. To my knowledge these postcard rates remained unchanged until 1945. I have found a Formula lettercard of which I enclose two scans. It shows some rates in 1888.

Numerals / Re: 1887 Apulco to France
« on: December 16, 2015, 11:10:24 AM »
Briancon today is a Ski resort in the departement of Hautes Alpes (High alps). In lower left corner the sender wrote in brackets "Htes. Alpes" . In the upper left is written "Francia" (France). The letter travelled from Apulco to Mexico (probably Dec. 25 1886). Arrived in N.Y Jan.14. 1887 . The Paris -La Roche Jan. 23, 87. cancel most probably is a TPO.  Nice cover from a small place to then very small place in the French alps!

Hi Mike,
there is no IRC catalog for Mexico at this date.
I made one for the postal stationery catalog I am working on but it needs some finishing. If you like I can send you a draft. I have been in contact with Peter robin.

Express Companies / Re: Wells Fargo receipt?
« on: August 19, 2014, 12:15:02 PM »
Farley,
This is a paste up or paste on WF cover form Leon to Mexico.  It was attached to another cover ( these were usually left intact , see  scan) or to a parcel. WF did not have stamps, but used covers instead.  Looking at the back I think that the flap ia not stuck down and shows  some remnants of other paper (right?) These pasted covers usually got an arrival cancel and within Mexico also a Cartero cancel.
Many Wells Fargo covers were used as paste up's. They are somewhat less atrractive than those used as envelopes.
Hope that helps
Peter

Eagles / Re: Wells Fargo plus Eagle
« on: June 06, 2014, 03:02:31 PM »
This is about the 5th or 6th time Behr tries to sell it during the last two years for an exaggerated price (to my opinion) Even in $ the price would still be high. One noted expert in Mexican postal history is of the opinion that it is not genuine and that the PF certificate is at least questionable. The two WF envelopes with additional franking known to me originate from Mazatlan and San Blas respectively and go both to San Francisco. This makes more sense.

Hi everybody,
in an old stockbook I found this Hidalgo profile O6C  stamp. Is this a fake with manipulated perfs or could it be one with  compund 11 x 5 1/2 perfs which is mentionned in Nicks book as reported  (but not priced)?
Have a nice time

General Discussion / E.book on Ebay
« on: December 28, 2013, 10:32:46 AM »
Dear friends,
is it legal to scan a book, make a PDF file and sell it on ebay? Just found this seller : ehbahia.
Although generally I find it good to have access to old books I wonder how it is with Copyright?

see : http://www.ebay.com/itm/MEXICO-Los-timbres-provisorios-de-Campeche-by-Eduardo-Aguirre-/111244989437?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e6b7d3fd

I wish everybody a happy New Year with a lot of stamps
