BTW: There is a more recent edition of 'Tizon' published around 10 years ago.

The APRL probably has a set which can be sent to APS members as a loan. Check out their web site. Though in Spanish, it is very easy to use.

Pete,

Thank you.  Are you familiar enough with this work to know whether Mexico is covered in Vol. 1 or 2?

Colonial postmarks are covered in Prefilatelia Espanola, Estudio de las Marcas Postales de Espana y Sus Dominios de Indias, Siglos XVIII y XIX by Guinovart y Tizon, 1971. This work identifies the earliest usage of each postmark only.

Spanish Post Offices in Colonial MEXICO prior to 1821

I am looking for a list of the Spanish Colonial post offices that were in operation in MEXICO prior to the Independence of Mexico at the beginning of the 19th Century.  In an ideal situation, that list would identify the post office in operation at the beginning of Mexico’s Constitutional government circa Dec 1824, and would include information regarding dates they were placed in operation.

I am hoping that some expert in the postal history of the Spanish Colonial period may have constructed such a list, or know of such a list.

I have been unable to locate such a list of post offices using traditional sources in the United States.

Thank you.

Mike
