How and where to post
(1/1)
Administrator:
The idea with a forum such as MexiMail is to organize the topics we're discussing, in order to quickly find what you're looking for. Therefore, it is important that you post your questions ("New Topic") in the right category and on the right board.
As an example, suppose you want to know something about a Guadalajara sub-office cancel you have on an 1861 stamp. Here's what you could (should) do:
* Locate the board "1856 - 1861 Issues" in the "General" category. Click the name / link "1856 - 1861 Issues". You will now be looking at a list of topics already posted on that board.
* Click "NEW TOPIC" on the menu at right, above or below the list of topics.
* Fill in the subject. This is very IMPORTANT! Think hard about how to describe your question, such that others may know what it's all about. For example, you could try "GDA/Zapotlan/ Atoyac Sz443 unrecorded on 1861 issue". Note how this is a very condensed description that also tells a reader most of what it's all about.
* When you're done composing your question (or better yet, once you've pasted in the question you composed on your local PC!), please click the button "Preview" below the edit area. Check to see if the post looks the way you want it to and read it. Fix errors, if any (including spelling errors...)
* When you're done, click the button labeled "Post". This posts your topic to the board and it is now visible to all visitors. It is sometimes possible to edit the subject line when you reply to a post - please do not do that EVER. The subject is the "thread" that keeps all of the posts about that particular subject together. Leave it alone, even if you think it's wrong.
Please use the subject line to its fullest advantage. It is virtually impossible to find anything later if the subjects are "Question", "Help", "Another question" or something similar, since this tells you absolutely nothing about what the post is all about. Also note that silly tricks like those used on eBay won't work here either - adding "L@@K" or "- need help immediately" is useless, since your questions will be answered when and if somebody gets around to it.
Please use proper case when you write. YELLING AT PEOPLE WILL GET YOU NOWHERE -it's simply not a nice thing to do on the Internet. You should also break up your writing (if necessary) by inserting an extra "newline" (press the Enter key). This makes it easier to read your post as well.
Moderators and administrators can change the subject lines and move the posts. We will, in case we see a valuable entry with a useless subject line. However, we cannot be baby-sitting every post here. Always remember that more than 100 people will be posting and reading on this forum.
Help others to help you.
